Eddie Jordan, who left us today, Thursday , March 20, 2025, at the age of 76 after a long illness: the Irish manufacturer wrote important pages in the history of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The best known dates back to September 12, 1999 when one of his Jordan cars, powered by Mugen Honda, won the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix with Heinz Harald Frentzen at the wheel. It was a race that went down in the news for the tears shed by Mika Hakkinen: the Finnish McLaren driver, who would win his second World Championship title at Suzuka, was leading by a handful of seconds over the German when he made a gear selection mistake, ending up in a tailspin at the First Variant. Frustrated by his mistake, the Finn took a knee, not hiding his sobs.<\/p>\n

But Eddie Jordan, who had made Michael Schumacher’s F1 debut at Spa in 1991, had already seen his own drivers on the podium at Monza: in 1988, when his own team was racing in Formula 3000, he had captured a third-place finish with Englishman Johnny Herbert; while two years later it was Eddie Irvine who climbed the second step of the podium.<\/p>\n

And with F1, Ralf Schumacher in the 1998 GP was also on the podium as a Jordan driver.<\/p>\n

Eddie Jordan loved coming to Autodromo Nazionale Monza where he had formed a great relationship with many staff members. Autodromo Nazionale Monza extends its sympathy to friends and family on this day of mourning.<\/p>\n
