Today, meanwhile, saw the first official event take place: 35 new oak trees were planted along the historic Viale Mirabello, outside the Ascari Chicane, as part of a joint initiative between the FIA WEC and the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">The woodland surrounding the famous circuit suffered extensive damage as a result of the violent storms that struck three years ago, uprooting thousands of trees and profoundly altering the landscape and ecosystem of Monza Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">Since then, an ambitious project has been launched to restore the woodland and expand its green heritage, while also raising public awareness of the growing impact of climate change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">The planting ceremony, held today, was attended by Autodromo Nazionale Monza President Giuseppe Redaelli, Monza City Council&#8217;s Councillor for Parks Arianna Bettin, General Manager of Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Alfredo Scala, FIA WEC CEO Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Lequien, and Automobile Club de l&#8217;Ouest President Pierre Fillon, alongside Team Peugeot TotalEnergies drivers Th\u00e9o Pourchaire and Nick Cassidy. As well as Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG ace, Lin Hodenius.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">In total, 35 new trees will take root within the park as part of a wider reforestation programme. This symbolic number represents the total number of cars currently competing in the championship&#8217;s Hypercar and LMGT3 categories. The initiative also reinforces the strong connection between innovation in motorsport, environmental protection and the local area that is home to one of the world&#8217;s most iconic motor racing circuits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\"><strong>Giuseppe Redaelli, President of Autodromo Nazionale Monza, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">\u201cThe planting of these 35 new oak trees is a tangible expression of our mission, which combines the promotion of motorsport with an ongoing commitment to environmental education and the protection of our local area. It is also a testament to our shared responsibility to demonstrate how motorsport can actively contribute to building a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">\u201cFollowing the violent storms of 2023, our commitment is to continue ensuring a positive balance between the sporting and technological development of the circuit and the preservation, restoration and expansion of the green spaces and tree heritage of Monza Park and the city of Monza.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\"><strong>Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Lequien, CEO of the FIA World Endurance Championship, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">\u201cSustainability is a fundamental part of the FIA WEC, and at every circuit we visit, we are committed to working with the venue and local organisations to leave a positive and meaningful legacy that will last well beyond race weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">\u201cWe are delighted to have worked so closely with Autodromo Nazionale Monza on this tree-planting project, and we look forward to seeing Monza Park flourish once again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\"><strong>Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l&#8217;Ouest, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">\u201cAt the ACO, we place sustainability at the heart of our strategy for the future of the sport, and we are constantly looking for new ways to build a bridge between motor racing and environmental protection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x12ofw9d\">\u201cMonza Park provides the backdrop to the iconic circuit, and it is a privilege for us to have been able to contribute, even in a small way, to this reforestation initiative.
