MARSHAL WEEKEND WITH 400 TRACK MARSHALS AT MONZA
The Marshal Weekend is underway today and will continue tomorrow, Sunday, March 29, at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. It is a key event for the training of track marshals, organized by Automobile Club Milano.
Organized by SIAS on behalf of Automobile Club Milano, in collaboration with AREU, Ecogeo and REXT, and under the aegis of Specialist Motorsport Academy – ACI’s training school managed by ACI Sport and directed by Raffaele Giammaria – the event represents a crucial moment in the development and ongoing training of marshals.
Around 400 participants are attending, including both newcomers and highly experienced marshals, highlighting the strength and continuity of a role that is essential for the safety and proper running of motorsport events.
Saturday morning opened with remarks from the Vice President of Automobile Club Milano and Vice President of SIAS–Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Paolo Longoni, who emphasized the strategic importance of the marshals’ role:
“We have a level of professionalism that is recognized worldwide—Monza is a benchmark. These days are important because regulations are constantly evolving: cars must be handled differently and new rules need to be explained and learned.”
This was followed by greetings from the Director of AC Milano, Paolo Roggero.
The morning session was dedicated to theoretical lessons covering key topics such as service organization, the introduction to interference risks, Legislative Decree 81/08, and communication dynamics with Race Control. Speakers included Oscar Comi, Circuit Race Director; Davide Spinelli, Health and Safety Manager of AC Milano; Pietro Andreoni, Head of Fire Prevention at Autodromo Nazionale Monza; and Michele Taddei, Health and Safety Manager of the circuit.
In the afternoon, attention shifted to practical on-track activities: at the Prima Variante, simulations were carried out for vehicle recovery and driver extrication from GT and Formula cars, while at the Variante Junior participants practiced the use of fire extinguishers—essential exercises to improve responsiveness, coordination and operational safety.
Tomorrow, Sunday, March 29, the program will continue, with Luigi Felisa, Health and Safety Manager of SIAS–Autodromo Nazionale Monza, joining the instructors.
The Marshal Weekend once again proves to be a key event in ensuring ever higher standards of safety and professionalism, reinforcing the role of Autodromo Nazionale Monza as an international benchmark in motorsport.
