ROAD SAFETY: THE AUTODROMO ACHIEVES FIA THREE-STAR RATING. BEN SULAYEM: "PROUD OF MONZA"
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) — the global governing body for motorsport and the federation of mobility organizations worldwide — has announced that Autodromo Nazionale Monza has achieved the highest 3-star rating in the FIA Road Safety Index for its commitment to managing road safety in its mobility-related activities, with the support of the FIA Member Club Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI).
H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, stated: “Road safety is a global challenge that requires large-scale action. Through the FIA Road Safety Index, we are providing organizations with the tools to do so, protecting their employees as well as all road users. I am proud of the achievement reached by Autodromo Nazionale Monza, as it demonstrates how our sporting community can lead by example and promote meaningful change.”
Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Mobility, Sustainability and Tourism, explained: “By integrating data-driven processes and accountability, the FIA Road Safety Index enables organizations to reduce risks and save lives. Autodromo Nazionale Monza has shown how these principles can be successfully applied in practice.”
Geronimo La Russa, President of Automobile Club d’Italia, emphasized: “This is an important milestone that confirms the role of Autodromo Nazionale Monza as a unique symbol of global motorsport: the Temple of Speed — the oldest circuit still in operation in Formula 1, the fastest in the World Championship, and one of the most loved by drivers — now also stands as a model of safety, sustainability, and responsible innovation.”
Developed by the FIA with the support of the FIA Foundation, the FIA Road Safety Index provides organizations worldwide with a data-driven methodology to assess, manage, report, and improve their impact on road safety. The Index helps organizations turn road safety commitments into measurable actions and tangible accountability by identifying risks, implementing targeted improvements, and strengthening transparency in ESG reporting.
The 3-star rating reflects a clear and structured approach that places safety at the core of operations, with measures aimed at reducing mobility-related risks and promoting safe driving among staff and partners.
Autodromo Nazionale Monza, universally known as the “Temple of Speed,” hosts the Italian Grand Prix of the FIA Formula One World Championship and is one of the most iconic venues in international motorsport. It is the second racetrack in the world to receive the FIA Road Safety Index 3-star recognition, following the success achieved in 2025 by the Piero Taruffi Circuit in Vallelunga.
The FIA recognition highlights a structured and concrete path that places safety at the heart of corporate policies through the adoption of dedicated procedures, awareness initiatives, and monitoring tools aimed at reducing risks related to mobility and operational activities.
