AUTODROMO NAZIONALE MONZA: CONCESSION TO THE AUTOMOBILE CLUB D’ITALIA EXTENDED UNTIL 31 DECEMBER 2044

At the conclusion of an intensive and highly productive collaboration, the Consorzio Villa Reale e Parco di Monza and the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) have formally approved the amendment and extension of the concession for the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, granting ACI the right to operate the circuit until 31 December 2044.

Within the Consorzio—comprising seven public institutions (the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Lombardy Region, the Municipality of Monza, the Municipality of Milan, the Province of Monza and Brianza, the Chamber of Commerce, and Assolombarda)—the measure follows Resolution No. 31 of 19 June 2026. Through that resolution, the Board of Directors reaffirmed the intended use of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza and the concession of the circuit and its associated facilities to ACI, recognizing it as the only entity acknowledged by both the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) as capable of preserving the venue’s national and international standing, also by virtue of the sporting title it holds.

As established by the aforementioned resolution, any activities carried out or managed by ACI at the Autodromo other than motor racing events must be consistent with and coordinated alongside the strategic plans, development programmes and overall management of the Royal Villa of Monza monumental complex.

On ACI’s side, the agreement follows the mandate granted to President Geronimo La Russa on 9 April 2026, based on the Economic and Financial Plan, which provides for investments totalling €12 million by ACI and SIAS to be completed by 31 December 2029.

The approved measure represents a modern legal and financial framework based on innovation and cooperation among public institutions. It is the result of a collaborative effort involving the Consorzio’s Board of Directors, General Director, staff, and the legal departments of the participating entities, working in close coordination with ACI’s leadership. It enables the concessionaire to amortise essential investments aimed at improving safety, sustainability and enhancing the value of the “Temple of Speed,” the historic home of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix. At the same time, it allows the Consorzio Villa Reale e Parco di Monza to increase the value of the circuit’s assets and, more broadly, of the facilities located within the Park.

“Monza is strengthening its partnership with ACI, a highly valuable public institution that has long contributed to making our city an increasingly attractive destination for motorsport and speed enthusiasts, as well as for all those who recognise the unique character of our National Circuit—a place that is part of the area’s history and architectural heritage while also fostering innovation and research,“ said Paolo Pilotto, Mayor of Monza and President of the Consorzio Villa Reale e Parco di Monza.

“The Autodromo is located within the Monza Park, a site of outstanding historical, cultural and environmental significance that is currently at the centre of a broad enhancement programme. The resolution we have approved takes into account both of these unique assets: the uniqueness of Monza Park and the uniqueness of the Autodromo.”

Under the agreement, as previously announced, the concessionaire undertakes to carry out upgrades, innovations and improvements to the circuit, subject to prior approval by the Consorzio. Planned works include the refurbishment of the Service Buildings and the Pit Building, the expansion of the Main Grandstand, the redevelopment of the historic “Old Garages,” improvements to lighting systems and perimeter fencing, the upgrading of the hydraulic infrastructure to enhance the site’s resilience during major events, and the construction of new sections of the sewer network.

“This is an achievement that could not be taken for granted, and today it has become a reality. It marks a milestone for the Automobile Club d’Italia, for Monza, and for Italian motorsport as a whole. By extending the concession until 2044, we are providing greater stability to our long-term growth strategy, enabling us to remain a global benchmark,” declared ACI President Geronimo La Russa.

“These are not just figures,” he added, “but safer infrastructure, more modern facilities, and better services for teams, drivers and the fans who fill the grandstands every year.”

“I would like to thank General Tullio Del Sette,” President La Russa continued, “who pursued this project with determination, as well as Giuseppe Redaelli for his teamwork and loyal cooperation, which made this result possible, together with all the representatives of the Consorzio. Among our many objectives, I would like to highlight two that are particularly important to us: ensuring that Monza remains forever a unique and irreplaceable fixture on the Formula 1 calendar, and passing on to future generations a circuit that is even more beautiful, safer and more competitive.”

The restructuring of the concession was preceded by a joint review of ACI’s compliance with the contractual obligations set out in the existing agreement. The review highlighted ACI’s strong operational commitment to the protection of the park’s forests and green heritage, particularly through woodland improvement projects, the control of invasive alien species carried out since 2020, and the restoration of tree assets damaged by the severe storm of July 2023. Over a five-year period, the number of native forest trees planted was nearly five times greater than the target established under the contractual commitments.

To support these efforts, a cooperation agreement was also signed between the Automobile Club d’Italia, the Valle del Lambro Regional Park Authority, the Consorzio Villa Reale e Parco di Monza and the Lombardy Region for the restoration and enhancement of woodland areas within the Monza circuit grounds. Under this agreement, ACI may receive funding of up to more than €2.6 million.

Finally, with regard to the Park’s outdoor swimming pool, the parties have undertaken to reach an agreement by 30 April 2027 concerning both the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance to be carried out by the concessionaire and the implementation, through shared governance instruments, of the pool’s redevelopment, with the aim of reopening it to the public.
