17TH COPPA MILANO-SANREMO HISTORICAL REVIVAL KICKS OFF AT THE TEMPLE OF SPEED
The 17th Historical Revival of the Coppa Milano-Sanremo got underway this morning, Thursday, March 26, at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. From 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the customary technical and sporting scrutineering took place, along with free practice laps on the track, preceding the official start of the race with the first regularity trials at 2:30 p.m.
In the afternoon, the cars headed to Milan, where they took part in a striking parade in Piazza Città di Lombardia and then, as tradition dictates, passed in front of the headquarters of the Automobile Club Milano on Corso Venezia.
The competition featured some of the most prestigious names in historic motorsport, including Mario Passanante and Alessandro Molgora in their 1937 Fiat 508C, as well as Francesco and Giuseppe Di Pietra with another Fiat 508C, this one dating from 1938. Also competing are Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli, already winners of numerous regularity races, driving a 1935 Fiat 508S.
Around seventy crews took part in the event.
The race will resume tomorrow, Friday, March 27, and conclude on Sunday, March 29, following a route inspired by the original 1906 course. The latter, 310 kilometers long, connected Milan to Acqui Terme and from there continued on to Sanremo.
This year, the Coppa Milano-Sanremo, the oldest automobile race in Italy, celebrates its 120th anniversary.
The Automobile Club Milano sponsors and supports the event and, through ACI Sport, grants it competitive status within the Italian Great Events Championship.
