RECOVERED 1.8 TONS OF FOOD AT FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GP D’ITALIA 2025: DONATED TO 290 NEEDY FAMILIES

An Italian Grand Prix in Monza that this year recorded a record attendance during the 3-day event: 369,041 fans present at the racetrack.

But the weekend can boast of another great achievement: thanks to the memorandum of understanding between ATS Brianza, Autodromo Nazionale Monza and CSV (Centro di Servizio per il Volontariato) Monza, Lecco and Sondrio for the promotion of food waste reduction, recovery of food surpluses and redistribution to families in need in the area, they were rAccepted more than 1.8 tons of foodstuffs, donated by food operators and meal production centers present at the Autodrome; coordination and collaboration among ATS operators, Food Sector Operators, CSV led to the collection, portioning and distribution of meals and food products to 290 families in need, thanks to the efforts of 100 valiant volunteers and Health Protection Agency workers, who were busy until the Wednesday following the Grand Prix.

Raw materials, semi-finished products and properly stored meals such as fruits and vegetables, ready meals, meat, beverages, and baked goods were delivered by the food operators who joined the project, at the collection centers located at the Autodrome, where operators from the Food Hygiene and Nutrition Structure of ATS Brianza verified that the hygiene and safety requirements of the delivered food were maintained.

“This collaboration is truly a feather in the cap of activities in the field of surplus recovery and the fight against food waste,” explains ATS Brianza General Manager Paola Palmieri. “It is a project that is made possible thanks to the commitment and collaboration between entities, associations, and food operators, united in this challenge of social responsibility, environmental sustainability and health promotion. The protocol has been active since 2022 and year after year we have expanded the scope, applying this model not only to the Grand Prix, but to other events at the Autodrome, collecting 28 tons of food in 4 years and helping hundreds of needy families in neighboring municipalities. I would like to emphasize how the awareness-raising activities and waste reduction campaigns we have promoted have resulted in greater attention and better planning on the part of the operators in the sector, allowing a steady decline in the food surplus recovered year after year during the Grand Prix. Finally, I would like to thank the operators of our agency who engaged in this activity for 4 days and all the volunteers who contributed to its success.”

“The Italian Grand Prix 2025 represented for Monza not only an extraordinary success in terms of participation, but also a concrete opportunity to demonstrate how a major sporting event can generate a positive impact on the territory, also from a social and environmental point of view,” commented Giuseppe Redaelli, president of SIAS Autodromo Nazionale Monza. “Thanks to the memorandum of understanding with ATS Brianza and CSV Monza Lecco Sondrio, and the fundamental contribution of food operators and more than 100 volunteers, we were able to collect more than 1.8 tons of food surplus. This is an extraordinary result that shows how collaboration between institutions, third sector entities and businesses can translate into concrete gestures of solidarity, efficiency and sustainability. This project is a source of great pride for us: the Autodromo Nazionale Monza wants to continue to be not only the Temple of Speed, but also a point of reference for a model of responsible event that is attentive to the welfare of the territory. To all those who made this achievement possible, goes my most sincere thanks.”

“So much work, so many rules to follow, so much responsibility to the families in need who are waiting for this great opportunity! The good exists and the 80 volunteers involved who worked tirelessly and impeccably giving hours of their lives are tangible proof of that! We have activated an important Monza network, that of Pane ù&Rose, which I thank from the bottom of my heart for distributing in record time what was collected,” emphasizes Filippo Viganò, president of CSV Monza Lecco Sondrio. The good news flowing from this exemplary experience is that there are still many people who give of themselves for free for the public good and for the most fragile. Important to say this indeed to repeat it in a communication system that often generates anguish and a sense of helplessness. So thank you to all the volunteers and all the volunteers of the world!”
