FIA WEC GETS UNDERWAY IN THE RAIN AT MONZA: KUBICA’S FERRARI SETS THE PACE

The FIA World Endurance Championship weekend at Autodromo Nazionale Monza got underway in the rain, as the circuit hosts the final and decisive round of the 2026 season.

The first free practice session, which started at 10:30, took place entirely in wet conditions. Charles Milesi set the fastest time in the Alpine A424 #35, clocking a 1:45.862, ahead of Ye Yifei in the Ferrari 499P #83, just over four tenths of a second behind. The Ferrari was also among the busiest cars on track, completing 39 laps.

In LMGT3, the fastest was the Garage 59 McLaren #10, with a time of 1:57.575, ahead of the Ford Proton Competition #88 and the Corvette #33, currently leading the championship standings.

In the afternoon, at 14:30, the cars returned to the track after the rain had stopped, with the asphalt gradually drying out. These conditions allowed lap times to improve rapidly, setting the stage for an exciting finale in the Hypercar class.

Robert Kubica stole the spotlight in the Ferrari #83. After breaking through the 1:40 barrier, the Polish driver delivered an outstanding 1:38.143 right at the end of the session, securing the fastest time of the day. Harry Tincknell took second place in the Aston Martin #007 with a 1:38.939, followed by Raffaele Marciello in the BMW #15, with a 1:39.759.

In LMGT3, Ford Proton Competition secured a one-two finish in the closing stages, with Sebastian Priaulx in the #77 ahead of Logan Sargeant in the #88. Maxime Martin finished third in the Mercedes-AMG #61.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the third and final free practice session will take place from 10:30 to 11:30. Qualifying will follow in the afternoon, starting at 14:20, followed by the Hyperpole, reserved for the top ten cars in each category. On-track activities will conclude at 15:30.

Between the two practice sessions, from 13:10 to 13:40, a pit lane autograph session is scheduled.

Away from the track, the Fanzone will be brought to life by DJs Marco Regaz & Fede Cerve and DJ Sibe. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a dedicated kids’ area, food and beverage outlets, simulators, test drives with Genesis, and the official WEC merchandise shops.

From 12:00 to 13:00, fans will have the opportunity to attend a Meet & Greet featuring Riccardo Pera, Giammarco Levorato, Mattia Drudi, Johannes Zelger, Alessandro Pier Guidi, Francesco Castellacci and Davide Rigon.

Tickets granting unrestricted access to all grandstands are also still available

On Sunday, the race will get underway at 11:00.
