WEC HEATS UP IN MONZA: FERRARI WELCOMED BY HUGE CROWDS AT MILAN CENTRAL STATION, WHILE FERDINAND HABSBURG VISITS HIS ANCESTRAL ROYAL VILLA
The Monza 6 Hours, the final round of the FIA WEC, is gathering momentum with two special events that today took some of the championship’s leading figures beyond the circuit, bringing Milan and Monza together in the build-up to race weekend.
The morning’s main attractions at Milan Central Station were Antonio Giovinazzi and Antonio Fuoco, drivers of Ferrari AF Corse’s #51 and #50 entries respectively. They were welcomed beneath the Galleria delle Carrozze, where the Ferrari 499P #51 has been on display for the past four days, by a large crowd of fans, many dressed in red, all hoping to get a photograph, an autograph or simply shake hands with the drivers.
Both drivers highlighted the excitement of racing at Monza in front of their home crowd. “It’s a special race for Ferrari and for Italian drivers. We want to bring home the victory on Sunday, and we’ll give it our best shot,” said Giovinazzi, stressing that the support of the fans provides extra motivation. Fuoco also reiterated his pride in competing at the Brianza circuit, with the aim of fighting for victory and securing third place in the Drivers’ Championship and second in the Manufacturers’ standings.
In the afternoon, the spotlight shifted to Monza’s Royal Villa, which welcomed Ferdinand Habsburg, driver of the #35 Alpine A424 and a descendant of the Austrian imperial family. A great-grandson of Charles I, the last Emperor of Austria, Habsburg visited the Royal Villa for the first time, accompanied by a guide and following an invitation from Managing Director Bartolomeo Corsini.
t was a particularly meaningful visit for the driver, who was able to combine two of his greatest passions: racing and history. Habsburg also expressed his enthusiasm for returning to Monza, describing the Brianza circuit as one of his favourite tracks in the world.
“I’ve been to Monza to race several times, even when I was very young, and I knew about the Villa because it is very famous. Empress Maria Theresa (whose son Ferdinand commissioned the Villa in 1770) is one of our most famous and beloved ancestors, renowned for her leadership, and there is a great deal of her history within these walls. But I must admit that I had never actually been inside before today.”
The special off-track events will continue on Thursday, 5 November, after 3 p.m., at Bosco delle Noci, in the area outside the Ascari chicane. Around thirty trees will be planted as part of the reforestation project launched following the storm of July 2023. Drivers, FIA WEC representatives and senior officials from the Autodromo will take part in the initiative.
The Monza 6 Hours, the final round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship, will take place from 6 to 8 November at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. It will be a decisive event in the battle for the Hypercar and LMGT3 titles, with the race scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
